Expedition Fleet
Fugari Expedition Fleet

What It Is
The Expedition Fleet is the main Fugari combat force — the full roster of vessels that operate when the Fugari are at strength. When the Fugari Cohesion Score (FCS) drops to the Expedition band (0–9), this fleet is not defending the home planet. It is elsewhere. The bastion runs on a skeleton crew.
This is the window that wins cycles.
The FCS System
The FCS is an integer from 0 to 100 computed every reset. It is never shown as a raw number — it appears only as narrative signals in the Realm Report.
| Band | Score | Drone Replenish | Guardian Regen | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dominant | 80–100 | 100% | Full | Expanding aggressively |
| Cohesive | 50–79 | 100% | Full | Standard operation |
| Strained | 25–49 | 60% | 50% | Withdrawing from outer nodes |
| Fractured | 10–24 | 30% | None | Infighting |
| Expedition | 0–9 | 20% | None | Fleet leaves, skeleton crew |
FCS drivers:
- Active player ratio (max 40 points) — more players feeding the economy means more Fugari income
- Income from drains and tolls (max 35 points)
- Tension penalty from over-expansion (uncapped negative)
The structural lever: a Fugari faction that has latched many players and expanded aggressively gains income but accumulates tension. When the tension penalty overwhelms income, the FCS collapses. The galaxy's best weapon against the Fugari is letting them overextend.
Reading Fleet Signals
The Expedition window is the rarest and most valuable intelligence in the game. Experienced players read the Realm Report signals from the first reset:
| Realm Report Signal | FCS Implication |
|---|---|
| "The Fugari bastion is silent in the way that fortresses are silent — watchful, complete, unmovable." | Dominant. Do not assault. |
| "The bastion shows no unusual activity. The drain on outer nodes continues at standard rate." | Cohesive. Normal operations. |
| "Fugari patrols have thinned near the outer nodes. Whether by choice or necessity is unclear." | Strained. Push orbital defenses now. |
| "Two Fugari convoys clashed near Node 34. Something is wrong inside the bastion." | Fractured. Serious assault window. Coordinate immediately. |
| "The main Fugari fleet has left. The bastion runs on a skeleton crew." | Expedition. The window that wins cycles. |
By the third or fourth reset most experienced players have a hypothesis. By the eighth or ninth it is confirmed. Missing the Expedition window is the kind of thing veteran players discuss in the post-cycle debrief.
The Four AI Strategies
Each cycle, the Fugari operate under one of four AI strategies seeded at the Big Bang. The strategy shapes how the FCS moves and what behavior you observe:
| Strategy | Behavior | FCS Implication |
|---|---|---|
| Fortify | Reinforces defenses, outer screen and citadel shields prioritized | Longer assault windows required; FCS stays elevated |
| Expand | Colonizes adjacent nodes aggressively, more latch opportunities | More tension penalty accumulates; FCS collapses faster |
| Parasite | Doubles drain rate on all latched players | More income, higher FCS potential; players have stronger incentive to purge |
| Chaos | Deliberately unpredictable, Realm Report signals harder to read | Planning is harder; everything is harder |
Reading the strategy from early Realm Reports is itself a skill. An Expand cycle tends to collapse on itself — watch for thinning patrols earlier than expected. A Fortify cycle means the Expedition window may not come until late. A Chaos cycle means your hypothesis may be wrong until it suddenly isn't.
The Window
When the Expedition window opens, the Bastion Defender garrison is running at 20% drone replenishment with no guardian regeneration. The 3-phase assault — clear the node, grind the garrison in wave combat, then push through orbital defenses and citadel shields to the core — is dramatically more achievable against a skeleton crew than at full strength.
Everything your coalition has been building toward — the Warships, the Leviathans, the Heretics — converges here. The window does not last forever. The fleet returns. When it does, the bastion restores.
The pilot who destroys the Core earns "Destroyer of Cycle N," permanently attached to their callsign. The final Realm Report edition narrates the full cycle arc — from the first latch to the last stand, with every significant player named.
Miss the window and you wait for another cycle. Hit it and you end the game.
